I think if all of those actors/characters/traits had been on a show with a completely different premise and plot, I would have gone to the trouble of seeking it out. Make them fight aliens or something. Make them wizards. I'm not interested in a show about fat camp. That's seriously not the only way to make a show starring fat people, networks.

Wizards could work. Something like the witches vs wizards plots from Discworld? Magic tends to lead to a sedentary life, at least in an urbanised universe. The entire staff of UU is either knobbly/skinny/twitchy or heavy/expansive/hearty. The witches are more varied, but you've got Nanny Ogg on one end and Granny Weatherwax on the other. Pretty much all of them kick ass if you get them going, and they deal with things like Dungeon Dimensions, sourcerors, the odd apocalypse and Mrs Cake on a semi-regular basis.

You can have these things in genre stories, seriously. You can have them in crazy madcap plots. I swear.

You don't need to be sedentary to be fat. I run for 45 minutes before work every day - and I'm way fatter now than I was when I never moved farther than the front door.

Basically this. Make it fantastical if you're going to make it something I can't relate to and then I'll watch.
