My number one hated trope is when the bad guy kills himself so the good guys don't have to resolve the situation. It feels like lazy writing. I'm looking at you FMA Brotherhood and Sherlock.

That's because it is lazy writing. People want The Most Powerful Villain Evaaaar without actually thinking ahead to how the heroes are gonna, you know, deal with this impossible problem. If it's not suicide, it's bullshit like them being deathly allergic to some completely ridiculous thing like water or true love. Eaaarrgh.
