I hate, hate, hate character A not telling character B or C or whatever something becasue it's 'too complicated' or 'to protect' them. Especially when not having the info actually puts the characters into danger. SO ANNOYING.

I also hate the character who has a lot of knowledge and/or power but won't help or just hints around at things and never actually *helps*.

Oh god, yes. It's one thing if they establish this character has reasons for not helping, but if you're just going to drop cryptic hints? Especially about important world-saving things!

Kind of like how characters in video games won't provide you the best equipment possible despite the fact you're running around saving the galaxy.

YES, I hate this SO much. I'm looking at you, Order of the Phoenix.

I haaaate the "to protect them" thing. Fuck that.

It might be because I've had people pull that shit on me, and I would 100% always want to be informed over sitting in the dark. And honestly, lies or not telling people whatever, it never seems to protect anyone in the end.

No kidding. Especially if not knowing means that a monster/villain can actually *get* to you, because you didn't take the proper precautions.

One book series I keep up with is nothing but this. Literally nobody will answer a question directly, they all talk like magic eight balls to the heroine for four books, it became so ridiculous that it crossed the line from infuriating to entertaining, like some overflow switch clicked in my head and shut down my rage centers to protect me.
