22. I'm just about to watch Venture Bros., as soon as I finish another series. I hope the fanworks are good, even if there isn't a great sense of community as you say.

27. Good luck!

30. The beast is totally hot as a dude.

I'd love a link to the story, if you would be so kind, though I suppose your anonymity would be lost. Hit me up on AIM, perhaps?

Technically, it's on a different journal than my main one so I'm still somewhat anonymous...

Oh. You are such a silly goose to worry about that. It's just fine!

22. the main comm, [livejournal.com profile] venturebrothers, has a lot of fanart posted on a fairly regular basis.

there is a slash comm, [livejournal.com profile] venture_fandom, which apparently isn't updated that often.

the brand-new fanfic comm, [livejournal.com profile] supersciencefic, does not have a lot of content yet, but looks super-promising. the thing about VB fandom is that every other kind of fanwork is generally accepted (fanart, icons, cosplay, whatever), but fanfiction is sort of looked down upon for some reason.

off livejournal, if you poke around on deviantart you can usually find some good stuff. and the people's republic of venture (http://www.ventureindustries.org/) comes highly recommended, though personally i do not frequent it often.

i hope you enjoy the series. :3

but fanfiction is sort of looked down upon for some reason.

a general question from a different mouse. why do you suppose that is? it seems weird that the fandom would look down on fanfiction for that series. not impossible but odd.

I'm not sure! It may be because VB fans are just TOO HIP for fandom ... fanart and cosplay are okay, I think, because they are visual and don't really involve a lot of thinking? Fanfiction requires you to actually accept and read a plot, so it is more commitment than just looking at a jpeg.

It also implies more commitment on the creator's part as well (speaking as a person who both writes and draws, writing takes a LOT more thought and preparation; visual works are universal, whereas when writing, you need to have a very good grasp on language or else it does not come across well. with art, it's always open to interpretation and, especially with fanart, is usually pretty straightforward anyway), which I am not sure a lot of VB fans are entirely comfortable with. Commitment to fanworks can scream FANGIRL (or fanboy), which, in the pop culture-savvy world of the VB fan, is not something desirous to associate with.

I wish it wasn't this way though, because it's like, me, my friends, and maybe three or four other people are the only ones writing in the entire fandom. NOT THAT I DON'T LOVE WHAT THEY PUT OUT, but I just would like more.

22. I second everything [livejournal.com profile] terrie said. I hope you like it. <3
