You know, I think that as long as they are saying that it's their headcanon, it's alright. I have quite a few characters that are that way in my headcanon, I try to make it follow canon, but the human mind tends to paint over what is acceptable and embellish what it finds endearing.

I think the term headcanon doesn't help. I feel like the term was coined to give the fan theories and ideas more weight.

Oh well people shouldn't complain about that. I don't think that matters to me in all honesty. Why wish for a chocolate ice cream when you have a chocolate chip ice cream cone? It's kinda dumb really.

Headcanon to me means 'canon that's in one's head' and therefore it shouldn't bear any weight on the actual series. People who get butthurt over that, well that's their problem and their disappointment; no one elses.

I think you're doing it right. IDW Prowl is the first Prowl I've really become a fan of, and it's definitely because he's a prick.

Well, it's because I feel real sympathy for him, and at the same time, I want to punch him in the face. Any character that can inspire both feelings in me at once is awesome in my book.

*nods* That's pretty much the formula behind most characters that end up as my favourites. Desire to simultaneously hug and strangle them to death.

And Prowl's face is very punchable. Someone once made a collection of panels where IDW Prowl gets punched by members of all factions. It was awesome.

If you're doing it wrong, I'll join the bandwagon. IDW manipulative bastard Prowl is super interesting in the comics because of it (and it hits my kinks cuz' I do love me some manipulative bastards. :D)

I feel you, OP. Even assuming that fandom has actually put some thought in their headcanons instead of ridiculous nonsense, the offical writers are not-mind readers.

On the other hand, though ... it really does suck when your fandom does a really good job of fleshing out characters and their world, only for the offical canon to be stupid random crap that doesn't treat the characters with any respect just so they can churn out another game. It gets really vexing when it seems like the fans do a better job than the actual creators. (I AM STARING DIRECTLY AT YOU, CAPCOM.)

Ngl, I sort of hate Prowl and the twins because of their fanon. It's fucking everywhere, in every fic the same shit. The gen doesn't matter, most people just write them according to this insanely popular fanon I don't even know where it came from.

Like another anon, IDW Prowl is the only one I actually like, and it's because he's different. Give me a logical, complex notgood good guy any day over the processor glitching stick up ass clown fanon makes him into.

IDW's universe has never been presented as a canon followup to any previous G1 fiction.

Which were inconsistent with each other, to begin with, so they can't even bitch that being G1-styled (vaguely) means they should follow the precedent set by previous G1 series, because...WHICH? The American G1 cartoon, Marvel G1 comic, Dreamwave G1 comic, Japanese G1 anime, Japanese G1 manga...all have different tones, continuities, characterizations, etc. (Hell, the amount of internal consistency among them varies, let alone consistency between versions...)

Well, I say 'can't', I mean 'shouldn't'...this fact really, really doesn't stop people from doing so. (Usually, IME, that it doesn't follow the G1 cartoon's black and white morality and 1-dimensional characterization.)

What pisses me off is seeing other people call an author's take on a character "OOC" not because their characterization jars with actual canon but because it isn't in line with some popular fic writer's take on the character. I can kind of understand people being butthurt about their own headcanon getting fucked up, but it annoys me when people take up for other people's headcanon.

I don't get why somebody who loves a character has such a OOC headcanon to begin with? To me if you love a character, don't you love how they ACTUALLY are? o_o
