Hi I'm back and I had great fun in Japan! It only rained twice - the day at Lake Hakone so we couldn't see Mt Fuji and on the day our all day bike tour was booked in Kyoto. We did it anyway (and we did end up seeing Mt Fuji from the Shinkansen on Friday)

My worries over the shared bathroom/shower room evaporated after the first try and we all just introduced ourselves and talked about what we'd been seeing and doing. I never did brave the shared toilets though. Stuck to the cubical ones, be it western or japanese.

I liked Kyoto way more than Tokyo. Tokyo was a bit too intimidating for me, too many people rushing to work so I was forever worried I was in their way. I loved the museums there though! And Ueno park and the temples we took day trips to. The Fushimi Inari was soooo cool and we made it all the way to the top.

In Kyoto we went to the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and the flea market and bought awesome things. We went to a textiles museum and watched a kimono fashion show and found a store run by a little old man who made, threaded, dyed and all around created his own silk things. We went to all kinds of places like the Gold Pavillion, Teramanchi and the other old antique street, pontocho kaburenjo theatre (awesome! although I had no idea what was happening), we ate a lot of local foods. Sometimes it was a potluck of choice, my favourite was a little restaurant with a cook who used to live in Syndey. The owners were a friend of my Ryokan's owner. The bike tour took was all over kyoto and the return trip involved going past farms and rice paddies and little gardens set all up across the river edge. Pretty cool! We saw bamboo forests C:

The public transport was really easy to work out and the ToTo toilets were pretty awesome with all the buttons and heated seats. I want one.

People were so nice and helpful! We even had people asking if we needed help when we were looking at maps...and random highschool students practicing their english on us!
(One girl I will forever remember her face. She was walking past and went "Hello! Bye bye!" so I said "Konichiwa! Sayonara!" back and her surprised face was great.

I think my Japanese improved too, just through using it all the time. A lot of them got really excited that I could say more than Hello/Goodbye/thank you.

We did go to Nara but unfortunately I didn't enjoy it too much because it was a really hot day (I'm not a fan of warm weather) and I think I was running a bit of a fever. I had a headache all day and everything was too bright so I was a bit grumpy. The deer and temples were cool though, and we saw some people getting a traditional wedding photos done in front of one of the temples (it was one you had to pay for entry to). I bought some Nara sake from a Meiko.
I thought it was really interesting how english was everywhere so we had little trouble working most things out.

I bought my friends lots of souvenirs (and lots of pokemon for the one pokemon obsessed friend). I got myself a bunch of antiques from the antique rows and flea market, they made it home safely!

It was just really cool! I must go back again and look at different parts of it.

Oh and we did see Sakura blossoms, quite a lot actually! Thank yooou climate change haha

PS. My pet sitters were not good pet sitters. My pet rabbits had gotten out of the cage multiple times (it's a dog pen, so I guess my sitters didn't lock it liked I asked) and basically destroyed everything in reach and peed/pooed on everything. Sigh, took over 3 hours to clean up the mess after I got home and they still won't acknowledge my return. They're usually so snuggly.

So much I posted it in the wrong section! Woops u_u;

But it was fun! We even dropped into the manga museum which was ...interesting and I laughed when I found a store that sold those weird anime pillows I see everywhere on tumblr. But we mostly stuck to the cool things like architecture and shrines and old streets and parks and museum-museums.

Everyone dresses up their dogs! And all the dogs were pure bred this and pure bred that. Dogs being walked everywhere, even in shrines!
