One) People's relationships change over time
Two) This implies that women are always passive in the relationship (apparently it is ONLY men who can initiate and start a relationship).

Western culture has, for a long time, internalized the basic idea that men "shouldn't just take no for an answer", "chase the woman they want", "should know the woman is just playing hard to get", etc.

Add this to the fact that some women are told to "make the man work for it", because she's not one of those "easy girls", and it's just begging for a minefield of mixed messages.

Bottom line: I think OP raises a good point.

In an ideal world, I'd agree with kaijinscendre. In the way most of the pop culture stuff works, it leaves a bad taste.
