Re: Books/Movies/Tv Shows You Love Whose Fandom You Can't Get Into

Anything Pullman. I haven't even checked if there's a Sally Lockhart fandom - I'm just so not interested. I don't see any appeal in writing or reading Pullman fanfiction.

Then there's Poirot, because, as much as I respect the right of other fans to enjoy whatever they want to enjoy, I find the Poirot/Hastings pairing completely ridiculous. Not only am I not invested, I also cannot take fanfic seriously. It cracks me up.

Shakespeare. LOL, merci but non merci.

Hitchhiker's Guide - all the fanworks bore me to tears.

LOTR - I hate the fact that nobody likes Gandalf enough to use him as one of the main characters. I'd like to see him having feelings and personality, not being a deus ex machina for everyone around.

Does Shakespeare have a big fandom?

77 works for Romeo and Juliet on AO3, 130 for Hamlet. I'm not aware of the existence of any Shakespearean fan communities (as in "more or less non-scientific fan communities"), though. No, not really big, but I didn't even try reading the stuff. And I'm not sure I'm ever going to.

yeah I can't get that into fandoms of most books I read. And the wants I do want stuff from, don't have anything!

It has a (albeit mostly dead) kink meme. Does that count?

I can't speak for anyone else (and I've never tried writing LotR fanfiction, so it could be argued I shouldn't even speak for myself), but the lack of Gandalf may not be entirely due to dislike. Of all the Fellowship, he's probably the least accessible- I can't get into his head anywhere as easily as, say, Sam or Boromir.

Yeah, I get this. He's an enigmatic figure. But why is it that no one is interested? After all, he could be described from somebody else's perspective. Or without any perspective at all. That would remove the need to write down his inner monologues.
