harry potter, final fantasy 7, my little pony and avatar the last airbender

Harry Potter

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8615605/1/The-Never-ending-Road

AU. When Lily died, Snape removed his heart and replaced it with a steel trap. But rescuing her daughter in the summer of '92 is the first step on a long road to discovering this is less true than he'd thought. A girl!Harry story, starting in Chamber of Secrets and continuing through Deathly Hallows.

If you can't stand Snape you won't like this story, but I like how the author humanizes his characterization while not excusing his behavior. Also everyone else is excellent and it has some of the prettier writing I have seen.

Final Fantasy VII

Anything Sinnatious writes

I recommend starting with The Fifth Act:

(older version)

http://sinnatious.livejournal.com/tag/act%20v

(newer version)

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5951824/1/The-Fifth-Act

Cloud has an accident with a Time materia. There are people to save, and for that, some people need to die.

The author takes a few liberties with canon, but otherwise does a great job expanding on the characters in a logical way.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7523099/1/The-Best-Night-Ever

Prince Blueblood thought the Grand Galloping Gala was over. He thought he could just go to sleep and put it behind him. He never expected to be reliving the same disaster of a day, over and over... and over.

Groundhog Day Loop but with an asshole pony prince. c:

There is a sequel ("This Platinum Crown") that starts pretty interesting but gets increasingly convoluted and personally I eventually lost interest. You don't really need to read the sequel, as "The Best Night Ever" isn't one of those "complete in name only - read the sequel to get closure" type of fics.

Twilight isn't having a very good day. An experimental spell blew up in her face, an army of changelings is attacking Canterlot, and she just died. Yet somehow, it looks like it's going to keep going downhill from here.

Groundhog Day Loop with a slightly unbalanced pony mage. c:

Has a sequel ("A Stitch In Time") which is pretty good too (and complete), which also sets up a cool hook for another continuation (making this a trilogy), although you don't really need to read beyond the first story.

Nightmare Moon visits Twilight in the night, and things get biblical.

Avatar: The Last Airbender/The Legend of Aang

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6904038/1/Bringing-Out-the-Blue

AU. The arrow injured the Blue Spirit instead of knocking him out, and Aang never found out his identity. Zuko made a Plan to find out more about the Avatar. He didn't expect so many truths to come from the lies.

If you ever said, "man, I wish Zuko had become friends with the Gaang sooner," this is the fic for you.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5398503/1/Embers

Dragon's fire is not so easily extinguished; when Zuko rediscovers a lost firebending technique, shifting flames can shift the world... Follows "Theft Absolute".

It's a sequel to a small oneshot, so read that first! Anyway, this fic is controversial because: a) it does terrible things to Katara's character, b) is way too pro-Fire Nation, c) martirizes and shills Zuko way too gleefully with the OCs, and d) it's one of those fics that grabs canon as a starting point, adds a few world-building "what ifs" and then the additions grow so out of control that it's like a new universe inspired on canon; but it's still some of the best written stuff in the fandom so it's worth checking out at least.
