I like depressing endings in movies/tv shows/books but not in fanfiction. I guess because fanfiction is about character I really love and specifically want to read about.

This. Fanfic is where I escape from all the depressing stuff. I am fine with it in movies/tv/books, but in fanfic, I want the ending to make me smile more than naught.

I agree.
I can handle a lot of tragic endings, but I read fanfics for my favorite characters and since I can stand seeing them suffer throughout the fic, I also want them to be happy again in the end.

That doesn't mean I want them to slide down a rainbow and fall into a field full of marshmallows. Happy ends can be realistic and still satisfying. For example, not every hero should just randomly get a girl in the end. That's a typical "happy ending" trope I really loathe.
