it bothers the hell out of me too but you have to understand that's because it's harder to animate. like, if the nipples were off the mark it'd probably be way more distracting.

Omg yes. I saw an animated film in which eyes were off the mark sometimes.

And in a lot of older series (anything older than five years) they wouldn't be that noticeable even if they were drawn. It is only really noticeable on modern systems, older CRT televisions and non-HD devices didn't have resolutions high enough to make it worth being 100% anatomically correct, and playback quality gets fuzzier and fuzzier the further back you go.

I never thought of that before, it certainly makes it a bit less creepy than if they just didn't like them. Although, it's no excuse for when mangas do it, which thankfully doesn't seem to be as often.
