It's shallow. It's not sexist because you're not refusing to read a book because they're male. It's not really hurting anyone but maybe yourself if you're missing out on a good book because the guy's missing an eye and has no teeth or something.

I'd say the same were the sexes reversed.

Even if you refused to read a book written by a man (or a man, by a woman.) well it's your prerogative who gives a shit.

I'm not OP and I would cheerfully read something with an author photo of an eldritch abomination on the back, but your comment made me laugh because I work in a library and every once in awhile when I'm shelving I notice this one author because in the photo on the book jacket he's wearing an eyepatch, not to be trendy, but because he's actually missing an eye. He isn't exactly a hideous monster, though.
