Armchair medical advice? (way TMI)

(Anonymous) 2013-05-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
So, I have a physical exam coming up, and I wanted to see what you all think so that I can get up the nerve to ask my doctor about it.

Ever since I can remember, I've had this creamy white stuff in my vulva, near my clit and in my labia. I don't know what it is (it's not discharge), and it doesn't hurt - it just itches sometimes when I don't shower for a few days.

Usually I just scrape it out with my fingernail and wash the area with hot water and a soapy washcloth, but it always comes back.

Is this a bad thing? Does it sound familiar to anyone?

What makes you think that it's not regular discharge? It can normally be clear or thick and whitish.

It's not in the same place, it doesn't have the same texture or consistency, and it's not the same color.

I mean, it could be, and I'm definitely going to ask to be safe. But I'm pretty sure it's something else.

Sounds familiar, i have no clue, yes, ask your doctor, trust me, they won't be horrified or anything else. It's always better to know.

Do you notice it more, say, right before you're period or right after sex (if you're having any) or anything like that?

But - yeah. Just ask. No reason to be freaked out or worried about what your doc will think.

Ummm, no offense or anything but it sounds like maybe you should shower more often?

Should have clarified - usually I shower every day. I only notice the itching when, for whatever reason, I go a couple days between showers.

It sounds like it's probably smegma. It's basically a combination of natural secretions and shed skin cells, and it's perfectly normal.

+1, sounds exactly like smegma to me.

if it doesn't fall apart easily between your fingers it might be toilet paper

sounds pretty normal to me

but if you're concerned, ask your doctor anyway just to be safe
