I fail to see what's obnoxious about that. So, hang on... it's not okay if someone wants to learn German just so they can read, like, Goethe in the original? Or maybe that's fine because hey, Goethe is Culture. But it's frowned upon if it's for Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten because that's lowly pop culture? How about my mom who learned Polish for the sole reason so she could converse with her Polish boyfriend?

What's it to you what anyone's motivations for learning a foreign language are. Who cares, what counts is that they do it. It's great. If there's something that motivates you, even better. Yours is such a snobby attitude.

Looks to me more like you're looking for reasons to find me snobby, and the whole point of this secret was 'oh hey, I get it now. Sorry.'

But since you asked...because they were very obnoxiously vocal about it (not like I haven't said this before, but...), and I guess because the loudest and most obnoxious people area always the ones who leave an impression, I've had a bad impression ever since. I really don't give a shit what other people do, but if they almost have no personality outside of it, I lose patience quickly. OMG I KNOW JAPANESE I WATCH ANIMUUUUU I KNOW THE CULTURRR BLAH BLAH BLAH.
