Honestly, when it comes to K-pop and J-pop you really don't know what's real and what's manufactured for publicity. The guys touted as best buds could be trying to shank each other offstage, and the guys with "beef" could be good friends.

At best, you could maybe say that the same publicity managers that use homoerotic (that BTW, is the correct term, not 'homogay') fanservice also like to use intergroup drama for publicity.

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek and fandom observant about that choice in words. I full well know the correct term. That's not what most people say when they're talking about that kind of fanservice.

By the way, talking about how your group had fistfights is never going to win fans. I highly doubt that their companies would just tell them to make that up. Other groups, their semi-rumored stories about the bad old days involve two members having screaming arguments at each other occasionally. And they don't talk about it in interviews.

Right. Bad boys are never popular. Ever. Look, those kids are wrapped up in so many contracts, they don't shit without permission - anything you know about them, even if you think it's special and secret and scandalous, was probably purposefully put into the media.

I highly doubt that Infinite is becoming more popular because of a bad boy image.

I still don't get how you comment negatively on almost every single k-pop secret. Did they do something to you personally? I almost never see you post anything as negative on anime secrets or anything else. I've lurked for a while and I think you've only ever said a non-negative thing once.

I would think if you hated it so much you just wouldn't bother commenting, instead of being antagonistic to an entire fandom.

As adorable as it is that you stalk me, you might want to take another look on the comment. I'm not saying anything bad about K-pop singers. I'm saying the singers aren't actually participating in the bad behaviors you attribute to them. AKA, I'm saying you're a bit gullible if you believe every scandal out there is gospel.

OP who is done with this shit

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Your confirmation bias is so strong that the constant dismissive language (and if you do not think you use dismissive language about every single thing that has to do with the Korean popular music industry you are a complete asshole with the blinkers of superiority on) is so shitty that you almost singlehandedly have turned off any person who might want to participate in fandom secrets.

If you do not think that you are responsible for your behavior and the shit you say you are a god awful human being.

Being dismissed as a gullible child because I dare to think that you can tell something of a person from the things they do and say, even within an entertainment industry (And holy shit, all entertainment industries are tightly controlled! The Korean isn't actually more so than the history of American music! But I'm guessing you don't give a shit about the fact that other people might know what the fuck they're talking about!), then you are the fucking problem with K-Pop. You can not take all responsibility away from people because "it's not real", "it's all made by the media".

You are such a fucking awful person to think that the things you say do not negatively affect people and their lives. I guess since you'll always be here that I just just fucking give up and trying to do anything with people because I know you're always going to be there making fun of me and any other person who dares to like or believe in something you think is superficial and stupid.

Fuck you and the high horse you rode in on, because I know that nothing I say could actually ever make you think anything different and you have no ability to admit that what you do is shitty and manipulative.

Truly unless you're secretly BoA you have no right to talk the constant shit and hide behind the veils of "Well I'm not saying the singers are bad people! I'm just saying that everything you find personal meaning in isn't real!"

Your lack of taking responsibility for how your words affect people, people who might have problems with people constantly dismissing the things they like and enjoy, is so beyond despicable that I am truly sobbing because you will always control this forum with your negative language.

Just, fuck you.

you almost singlehandedly have turned off any person who might want to participate in fandom secrets.

You've got me there. I'm actually sockpuppeting the oh... *checks* 700+ comments on this post alone. I am a lonely and vengeful god who has destroyed F!S and re-created it in my own image, and you stumbled upon my multiple personality-fueled dystopia, and have now finally uncovered the awful truth behind it. Dun-dun-duuuuuh!

Being dismissed as a gullible child because I dare to think that you can tell something of a person from the things they do and say, even within an entertainment industry (And holy shit, all entertainment industries are tightly controlled! No, you're dismissed as a gullible child because you say dumb shit like that. There's a reason why, if you google "k-pop contracts" the first four results are "slave contracts." Hell, there's a reason why "slave contract" is a K-pop created term.

Truly unless you're secretly BoA you have no right to talk the constant shit and hide behind the veils of "Well I'm not saying the singers are bad people! I'm just saying that everything you find personal meaning in isn't real!"

Holy shit, you unbelievably delusional fanbrat! They aren't! And it's not. It's not my fault that you believe in RPS fiction and demand everyone else play along with your crazy. Do me a favor and go over to the Supernatural RPF section and read some of the gems of how very terrible the actors are, for not only having children with their wives, but daring to let this be publicly known, when the fans know that truly, they're supposed to be having gay sex with their co-stars. and when you've had enough and start thinking "Holy shit, these people are delusional," turn around and examine the shit you say about your K-pop stars. Maybe you'll understand how silly you're being then.

I am truly sobbing because you will always control this forum with your negative language.

Kid, I ignore most k-pop secrets on this board, because I don't have an interest in discussing which indentured servant performer I find the hottest. Very rarely, someone says something either interesting enough to comment on, or something stupid enough to transcend fandom. If what I'm getting from this is accurate, a vast majority of the stupid ones that I commented on were yours. But I don't know you and the secrets are anon, so I can't be doing it to you on purpose now, can I? The logical answer is that you post very stupid things that happen to be related to K-pop. This theory is supported by the fact that you're sobbing because someone online told you that your fandom is fictional.

TL;DR: RPS isn't real. Steven Colbert isn't really a hardcore Republican, Dean and Castiel's actors aren't banging and sending secret coded messages about their love to the fans, and your favorite k-pop drama isn't real either. You don't know them, you don't have any special connection to them, and if you're finding "personal meaning" in fiction, that's fine, but that doesn't make fiction real. Santa isn't real either. If you stick to the inner sanctums of k-pop fandom, you might keep your delusions unchallenged, but outside of that, you're in the same category as tinhatters, people who believe Star Trek's real, and the nuttier bits of the Supernatural RPS fandom.

naryt

this was a satisfying read, but mostly because the number of times i've seen people refer to kpop boybands as being easier to write into RPF and roleplay here creeps me the fuck out, and it's uncomfortable to see the musician's personal relationships constantly being analyzed within the context of a fandom that routinely turns them into fictional characters to mess around with as they see fit

dunno if the OP is on any of those trains, but it's really weird to see someone bring up a potentially serious moral and social issue and the main quibble isn't the undercurrent of potential exploitation and deeply ingrained homophobia, but whether or not these things are bad enough to deter interest or not

it's not bad if you find them hot or love the fanservice and enjoy kpop in general, but you gotta understand that there's going to be people who aren't going to react well to that little conundrum and it's not because they're manipulative shitheads
