I highly doubt that their companies would just tell them to make that up. Other groups, their semi-rumored stories about the bad old days involve two members having screaming arguments at each other occasionally. And they don't talk about it in interviews.

Right. Bad boys are never popular. Ever. Look, those kids are wrapped up in so many contracts, they don't shit without permission - anything you know about them, even if you think it's special and secret and scandalous, was probably purposefully put into the media.
