Re: Why do people ship

The best answer would be some combination of all the comments above. The simplest answer is because it's fun. Some people find it fun for different reasons than others, but as far as I know everyone who ships does it because it entertains them in some way, whether it's sexual or non-sexual. Smut can be a reason why people ship, but it isn't the only one. (I know this because I actually am asexual, and I have a few ships but don't care to read smut about any of them. I just find relationships between characters interesting in general, whether they are romantic or platonic.)

Here's another way to look at it: When you were a child, did you have dolls? Did you sometimes put your dolls into couples romantically? It's like that, but you don't have to make up personalities for the dolls because someone else has already done it for you.
