What makes you think that Shinji knows nothing about sex? I mean, he clearly gets that Misato was trying to sleep with him ( I didn't get that the first time I was watching when I was younger).

Also, while anime!Kaworu is rather suggestive, manga!Kaworu doesn't seem to understand human interaction at all (when Asuka call shim a pervert he's confused, he kisses Shinji while he's hyperventilating, etc.)

Yeah, I'd believe that. The implication is that the angels aren't on earth until the moment they attack, why would that be different for Kaworu? And his position is more about love than sex (otherwise he and Shinji would have had real physical contact in the series). Shinji seems to understand at least male masturbation, lmao, so he could totes take the lead in a physical encounter with Kaworu.

Kaworu's birthdate is listed as the day of second impact, actually.

But I think it's heavily implied that he was raised by SEELE and I just can't see those guys letting anyone near Kaworu that might possibly get his attention when he has a Mission To Fulfill.

That would be a lot of fun, but I'd really just love to anything that has Shinji being the more aggressive/active one in the relationship in general. I really don't like how fanon writes either of them a lot of the time.

Angels knowing nothing about sex makes sense, but IIRC Kaworu actually made some sexually suggestive comments during his ep in the original series (grabbing his hand when they were naked in the bath and asking to "sleep together", unless all of that was unintentional on his part, hmm). Haven't seen it in years though.

I wouldn't be able to buy it. I could buy that he doesn't really understand the connection of sex and romance or have any experience with sex whatsoever or understand why humans are so into sex, but to have him not understand how the thing between his legs works, when AFAIK he was raised as a normal human child?

Plus isn't it heavily implied that the Kaworu of 3.33 is actually fully aware of everything that happened in the original series and understands that this is a fork/AU kind of setup? (people are citing an interview with Ishida Akira [Kaworu's seiyuu] which essentially says exactly that, plus the slightly altered, sugggestive dialogue like, "I really was born to meet you" [from the original, "I think I must have been born to meet you"] and "I'll definitely make you happy this time".)
