I wouldn't be able to buy it. I could buy that he doesn't really understand the connection of sex and romance or have any experience with sex whatsoever or understand why humans are so into sex, but to have him not understand how the thing between his legs works, when AFAIK he was raised as a normal human child?

Plus isn't it heavily implied that the Kaworu of 3.33 is actually fully aware of everything that happened in the original series and understands that this is a fork/AU kind of setup? (people are citing an interview with Ishida Akira [Kaworu's seiyuu] which essentially says exactly that, plus the slightly altered, sugggestive dialogue like, "I really was born to meet you" [from the original, "I think I must have been born to meet you"] and "I'll definitely make you happy this time".)
