Yeah, no. If you're only basing it on the movie, maybe, I can see rival slashing there. But in the comics, they're very close and Marvel has even written a comic where Tony is Toni and Toni and Steve get married; and that's where like 99.9% of it comes from.

Yeah, this. Steve/Tony is kind of the worst result of "comics=movie" mentality that I've ever seen. If it works in one, it must work in the other, right? Apparently.

But ... their movie interactions are really awesome? They're obviously not friends (yet) in the movie-verse, but their relationship in the movie plays a big role and they do start to respect each other by the end of the movie, so it's not like shipping them in the movies doesn't make sense.

I didn't see any chemistry in their movie interactions at all, frankly; I even went into the movie expecting to ship them because of that same comics-osmosis thing. Nothing. Nada. All I saw was dislike that became grudging respect, and the respect part all seemed very pulled-from-a-hat to me.

No one ever agrees with me on this, though. I'm used to it.

IDK, I'm a comic fan so maybe that's why I ship them, but I watched the movie with a friend who hadn't even seen the other movies and doesn't know anything about the comics, and she still ended up shipping Tony/Steve. And no, I hadn't told her about them before.

But I get it, anon, there are a lot of other popular ships that I don't get because I think they have no chemistry.

fwiw, anon, I agree with you on this one too.

(If anything, I thought the movie versions of Tony and Bruce had more chemistry than Tony and Steve .. though I don't ship those two either :p)

Sounds plausible

Fincher hatred? Could you give a hint of what to google, please?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! That's interesting...

i didn't, either. i could barely even remember their scenes when i tried to recap the movie to someone else literally 40 minutes after i'd first seen it.
