I loled because I have the exact same reaction to Steve/Tony, and your screenshot just highlights how much "worse" that ship is in that regard. The amount of fic that has both C/C and S/T is ridiculous.

Thank God for Ao3's search engine.

I don't ship Steve/Tony at all and in fact I really dislike it.

But at least the two have a known relationship (friends-ish by the end of the movie) and a fair amount of interaction. Plus in the comics they're very close. I don't think it's near on the same level of "why" as C/C.

At least Steve/Tony makes a lot more sense, considering they have a fair amount of interaction in the movies and are EXTREMELY close in the comics. I'm not telling you to like it if you don't (I'm not particularly interested in it either), but while Clint/Coulson is pretty much a crack ship, Steve/Tony has a shitton of canon basis.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no. If you're only basing it on the movie, maybe, I can see rival slashing there. But in the comics, they're very close and Marvel has even written a comic where Tony is Toni and Toni and Steve get married; and that's where like 99.9% of it comes from.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. Steve/Tony is kind of the worst result of "comics=movie" mentality that I've ever seen. If it works in one, it must work in the other, right? Apparently.

*gags*

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
But ... their movie interactions are really awesome? They're obviously not friends (yet) in the movie-verse, but their relationship in the movie plays a big role and they do start to respect each other by the end of the movie, so it's not like shipping them in the movies doesn't make sense.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't see any chemistry in their movie interactions at all, frankly; I even went into the movie expecting to ship them because of that same comics-osmosis thing. Nothing. Nada. All I saw was dislike that became grudging respect, and the respect part all seemed very pulled-from-a-hat to me.

No one ever agrees with me on this, though. I'm used to it.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
IDK, I'm a comic fan so maybe that's why I ship them, but I watched the movie with a friend who hadn't even seen the other movies and doesn't know anything about the comics, and she still ended up shipping Tony/Steve. And no, I hadn't told her about them before.

But I get it, anon, there are a lot of other popular ships that I don't get because I think they have no chemistry.

fwiw, anon, I agree with you on this one too.

(If anything, I thought the movie versions of Tony and Bruce had more chemistry than Tony and Steve .. though I don't ship those two either :p)

i think ruffalo and downey jr formed a broship while filming zodiac, united in fincher hatred, etc.

Sounds plausible

(Anonymous) 2013-05-09 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Fincher hatred? Could you give a hint of what to google, please?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! That's interesting...

I didn't see any chemistry in their movie interactions at all, frankly

i didn't, either. i could barely even remember their scenes when i tried to recap the movie to someone else literally 40 minutes after i'd first seen it.

wow, I thought I was the only one.

(YEs, I'm tired of finding fics tagged Bruce/Tony that are in fact Steve/Tony with a mere mention to Bruce being either dead or a bad boyfriend, or, even worse, fics that are tagged Bruce/Tony but are actually Bruce/Tony/Steve, which I can't stand)

Somebody here on F!S showed how to filter out Steve/Tony from your preferred OTP tags on AO3 by putting this in the "search within results" field while searching for your OTP: -"Steve Rogers/Tony Stark". You can put several pairings in at once, though I haven't figured out how to remove threesomes. I use the method for other fandoms, it's been a relief.

[personal profile] luxshine 2013-05-08 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
The problem I have is that they don't tag it Steve/Tony. When it's tagged, I have no problem. It's tagged, so I can skip them. Same with the threesomes. It doesn't annoy me to see the tag, it annoys me that I'm reading a fic, that it's tagged Bruce/Tony, that it says it's going to be about Bruce/Tony, and right in chapter 2, suddenly, one or both are contemplating how to add Steve to the relationship and there's no indication of it on the tags.

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2013-05-08 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, seriously? Why the hell would anybody want to do that? What do they think the purpose of the tags actually is? I guess they figure they don't want to "spoil the twist", but ugh, I hate that logic. Great, now I gotta look out for stealth pairings I despise because some authors are ridiculous.

[personal profile] luxshine 2013-05-08 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Not a lot of people do that. But the ones who do in my experience, are Steve/Tony shippers.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I mean, I like Steve just fine...but I still don't want him suddenly popping up in my other!pairings. Stop that shit.

(Same rule applies to anyone, really, but there's so little Bruce/Tony that's complete, not part of a series, and doesn't have surprise! threesomes/poly relationships.)
luxshine: (sciencebros)

[personal profile] luxshine 2013-05-08 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Totally agreed.

I am a Bruce/Tony shipper, and I know, I have to finish my fics, but I also want to read new stories and it's so little of it, specially compared to other ships.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
...I should be finishing my Bruce/Tony fics, and posting the ones I have finished. I should also be owning up to this under my username. *hangs head*

At least I can promise you more Bruce/Tony in the Marvel Big Bang? :D
luxshine: (sciencebros)

[personal profile] luxshine 2013-05-08 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
YAAAY! :) Actually, I can also promise more Bruce/TOny. At least three more medium sized epic fics :D

(Anonymous) 2013-05-09 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
But Steve/Tony at least have some basis as opposed to Hawkeye/Coulson.
