I don't get the pairing either. Coulson is obviously in love with Steve. Notice that his breakup with his girlfriend (who moved to another state to get away from him) happened around the same time Steve woke up. That's just too much of a coincidence. Why isn't Coulson/Steve more popular?

Because it weirds people out, and because Clint/Coulson and Steve/Tony show up in a lot of the same fics.

It weirds people out? How are they any worst than C/C where Coulson outranks Clint?

Because outranking someone is different than starting something with someone who hero-worships you. If C/C went with that dynamic, I wouldn't read those fics either.
