I can understand the feeling. I mean, I don't care what people ship and some crack ships are fine... but when a crack ship who has no interaction becomes the most popular ship... I get seriously confused.

Like, how the fuck is Bane/Blake the most popular pairing in TDKR? Or Barsad/Bane (I swear I didn't even know that guys name until I entered fandom). Is there some kind of novelization that capitalizes on this, because as far as I remember Bane and Blake never met and Barsad's name wasn't even mentioned in the movies.

Bane/Blake is the most popular pairing in TDKR because of Inception. Arthur/Eames was a massive pairing in that fandom, the biggest by far. Bane and Blake are played by the same actors, so they're shipped.

In terms of Clint/Coulson, I have to say I'm also baffled by it. However, I'm also one of those people who got sucked into it big time by accident and now I'm just in love with it. It shouldn't work, but it just DOES. I hadn't realised it was the second most popular ship until it popped up as a side pairing in a Steve/Tony fic I was reading, then that was it, I was hooked. Their dynamic just works for me.

Something about it must work for it to be so big and it certainly helps that a lot of the fic is very well written.
