(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)I don't necessarily think that everyone in RPS fandom blurs the fantasy vs. reality boundaries, but it really does verge on being that way for me. It's one thing to fantasize, but it's entirely another to take real, living people and use them the same way you would fictional characters.
Especially when the more invested fans do end up crossing the wires between their investment in celebrities as celebrities, and their obsession with the fictional personas they build through fandom.
There's a lot of people who definitely are sane about RPF in general, and I understand it's partly an extension of this talboidesque cultural voyeurism that's been ingrained into society, but it doesn't take much at all to nudge it over into "creepy as fuck" territory at all.
