Re: ...since when are harassment and invasion of privacy not harmful?

What about all the non-RPFers who bring up fandom to actors and creators over and over and over again at cons, during interviews, at premieres? I wish fandom could stop acting like this is something only people in RPF fandoms do. Unfortunately, people who don't understand boundaries exist in every fandom, fictional or not.

Oh I hate that so much... They ask their questions about shipping and fics, and when the actor/creator replies with politely and with a joke or something innocent (but could be taken the wrong way) slips out, fandom goes mad making assumptions.

I'm so glad nothing like that got asked at the event I was at, I would have died with embarrassment for the actor and the person asking.

This. I don't RPF ship at all but man the loud obnoxious shippers who like to bring up topics to actors that they really shouldn't exist in all fandoms, it's embarrassing and cringe worthy no matter who's doing it.

Asking people if Castiel is canon or not is horribly embarrassing; asking if them if they fuck their co-worker/long time friends and obsessively collecting "proof" is a completely different tier of abhorrent, invasive behavior that turns a real actor's life into their fictional playground.

Similar, but not the same.

This. Sending actors stuff about your ship is still extremely creepy and awkward and embarrassing, but ultimately it's asking them about fictional characters that they can put on and take off at will. It's definitely creepy, yeah, but not on the same level as trying to get extremely personal details about their actual private lives.
