Eh, it's just something that happens, and not only in American films (you need to get out more, anon). I mean, if there's a "Canadian" character they'll often have some ridiculous cross between hoser/Newfie that no one in the entire country actually sounds like even though a huge number of Hollywood stars are Canadian because they, well, sound almost exactly like Americans.

You know Trailer Park Boys isn't a documentary, eh?

Yet, if we want to talk offensive stereotypes and ridiculous accents, the US doesn't have a goddamn thing on Japan.
