Yay another new West Wing fan! *iz stupidly excited* I'm so happy the show had that effect on you. It's a great show. It makes everything seem so less-horrible and full of good things without cheapening the problems.

Man. I have such complicated feelings about West Wing.

But yes, I definitely get where you're coming from, some of the time - there's definitely moments in the show where Sorkin captures things that really do make you proud and really captures emotion in a way that's really moving. Like this scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KE05oVdbqw It can be really, really good stuff, even - maybe especially - when it's a little schmaltzy.

To which I would add almost any exchange between Sam Seaborn and Ainsley Hayes.

There is nothing about the episode "17 People" that I don't love.

Man even for my mixed feelings about the show I still think the run of West Wing episodes at the second season - from "17 People" to "Two Cathedrals" - has to be one of the strongest runs of episodes in television history. And that's not even mentioning "Noel", which is an amazing episode, or "Somebody's Going To Emergency, Somebody's Going To Jail", which I have an enormous (mostly Sam-related) soft spot for as seen in the youtube link above, or "Ellie", which is ridiculously heart-warming, or the whole Ainsley saga...

Basically what I'm trying to say here is that second season West Wing was on some other shit. Just otherworldly.

Are you kidding? Hating DC is about as American as it gets. Hating politicians, hating shitty traffic, bad road layout, huge portions of really shitty neighborhoods, abominable weather, isn't New York... the list goes on and on.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-10 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
This. The only people I know who like DC are the ones who grew up in those shitty neighborhoods, and they still hated the politicians.

never talk to me during the jackal!

Yup. You have called down the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing. No go outside, turn around three times and spit.

Wherever it's from, that shot is creepy.

I mean, I'm kinda with you there, anon, West Wing is one of the things that makes me feel good about my nationality (or at least lest embarrassed), but still, that screenshot...@_@

I love that scene, but this shot is definitely creepy XD

"Guess what I put in your pocket...?"

Just started watching it myself for the first time and have fallen so madly in love I've found the fic, say random quotes from it all the time, and follow all the "characters" on Twitter. My favorite is Josh and Donna's they're done brilliantly. "Josh" retweeted me once and I about had a come apart.
