Man. I have such complicated feelings about West Wing.

But yes, I definitely get where you're coming from, some of the time - there's definitely moments in the show where Sorkin captures things that really do make you proud and really captures emotion in a way that's really moving. Like this scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KE05oVdbqw It can be really, really good stuff, even - maybe especially - when it's a little schmaltzy.

Two words: Two Cathedrals
asecretchord: Stephen Hopkins, "Why is the rum gone?" (Rum gone)

To which I would add almost any exchange between Sam Seaborn and Ainsley Hayes.

There is nothing about the episode "17 People" that I don't love.

Man even for my mixed feelings about the show I still think the run of West Wing episodes at the second season - from "17 People" to "Two Cathedrals" - has to be one of the strongest runs of episodes in television history. And that's not even mentioning "Noel", which is an amazing episode, or "Somebody's Going To Emergency, Somebody's Going To Jail", which I have an enormous (mostly Sam-related) soft spot for as seen in the youtube link above, or "Ellie", which is ridiculously heart-warming, or the whole Ainsley saga...

Basically what I'm trying to say here is that second season West Wing was on some other shit. Just otherworldly.
