Recent Changes in Your Fandom-Related Opinions

(Anonymous) 2013-05-09 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you changed your mind about something fandom-related recently? Like, in the past few months? Have you started liking a character or episode you previously disliked? Or vice versa? Have you rewatched/reread something and saw it in a different light? Have you stopped shipping something? Started shipping something you used to not get? Become disillusioned about something you used to be hopeful about? Get excited about something you used to be meh about?

Personally, I just rewatched Mary Poppins due to last night's secret and omg how did I think this movie was boring before? I must've not been paying attention and so only the chalk drawing sequence stuck in my mind.

Also, a couple months ago, I started deeply despising Community when I used to love it. :(

This season of Community has been very hit or miss. :< MOstly miss for me, although there have been a couple of episodes that were wonderful.

Fern Gully is my Mary Poppins. Loved it when I was a kid. Realized how boring it is.

I realized in the last month or so that Supernatural fanfiction is no longer interesting to me. And that makes me sad. :(

OP

Um, I was saying I thought Mary Poppins was boring as a kid and I just rewatched it and realized it was awesome. So...uh...it's actually the complete opposite of what you're saying about Ferngully. Was my comment somehow unclear?

I'm in the same boat re: Community. I honestly think it's because I stepped into the fandom and it just ruined the show for me. I'm distancing myself from fandom now in hopes that the joy comes back.

I might've been in your position too had I not a decent spidey sense for that sort of thing. I love the fanart though.

I used to be a big fan of Sonic and Metroid. After replaying most of the games a couple years ago I'm down to Sonic 1, Sonic CD, and Super Metroid, all else can gtfo.

I quit watching Supernatural this year. After season 6 it had been more of a "I might as well see the ending now that I've watched it this far", but this season I just couldn't take it anymore and quit. Good decision, since they seem to be talking about season 10.

I haven't really started anything new this year. Out of all the shows that started this year, Arrow is the only one that I'm still following.

I recently rewatched Torchwood: Children of Earth and I'm scratching my head and wondering why I was complaining. It is the awesomest. Not perfect at all, but still the awesomest. Granted, it was more that I didn't want to like it when I saw it the first time and was trying to convince myself not to like it, not that I genuinely didn't like it the first time around. Sooooo...my opinion hasn't actually changed, as much as I've accepted my opinion. My brain is strange.

I guess I just didn't want to admit to myself I liked something whose message is "humans suck and everything is horrible and if you ever try to do anything good ever it will destroy your life unless you die young and if there is a god he should spit on us for sucking so much."

I've started to like Cersei and Sansa, and kind of Jaime, more in Game of Thrones since season/book 1.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-10 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of this.

Recent developments in the GoT show made me like Cersei a lot more than I ever have, in general. I don't like the direction GRRM went with her in the books, but for some reason she's been coming across a lot better to me in the television series.

However the show completely killed what little I could like about Joff's character at all, and unnecessarily so.

I'd still like the Lannisters to eventually die off, but I don't blindly dislike Cersei and Jaime anymore. Between the books and the show (I'm only halfway through A Storm of Swords mind you), you kind of.. 'get' them more? But Joff? Yeah. I didn't think I could hate him more and Sunday night happened.

A couple of months ago, when chapter 108 of Chihayafuru came out, I completely jumped the Taichi/Chihaya ship onto Taichi/Sumire. No regrets.

I was very indifferent towards the character of Hawkeye/Clint Barton. Then I read the current Hawkeye comics. Now he and Kate Bishop are two of my favorite Marvel characters whoops.

Also I like a song now that I once wrote an entire blog entry about why I thought it was terrible.

OT but now I really want to watch Mary Poppins too. Must be contagious or something.

When they first introduced ADA Barba on SVU, I hated him on-sight because he wasn't Alex Cabot and I was annoyed that they kept bringing in new DAs when they'd completely wasted Alex (and Casey for that matter) in season 13. But as pissed as I still am at TBTB for that, I can't hate Barba. He's just too adorable.

I replayed Miracle Mask and now I actually ship Randall/Angela. Still ship Randall/Henry and Henry/Angela (and Randall/Angela/Henry), though.
