2 Maybe not alone, but rare. I think I sort of take it as a given these days that any fans that came in with the Compilation only wiki'd the original.

It always makes me a little happier to see someone who came in with the Compilation who really did play the original. *_*

I wiki'd it so I'd have some background for AC, but honestly, it's nowhere near enough to really get to know the characters and the events and everything, and I knew it. I could never be happy in a fandom until I had full knowledge of as much of the canon as I could get my hands on.

And you know, you just get so much MORE out of the game than you do from an online source -- sure, knowing beforehand that Aeris was going to die took some of the emotion out of the scene for me, but I STILL jumped a little when Sephiroth just came from above and ran her through the way he did. And seeing everyone else's reactions afterwards -- the way Tifa touches her and then runs off looking like she's crying, the way Yuffie clings, clearly upset, to Cloud... Even if the graphics aren't up to today's standards, there's still so much depth to the characters in the little things they do on-screen that a mere script or game summary can never capture.

...and I'm totally preaching to the choir, but this is one of those things I could just go on and on and on about. ^^;

Even a couple years after the game came out, it was hard to avoid spoilers. I found that a lot of them still came as a surprise, all the same. The short summaries of them didn't really do them justice.

What bothers me is how so much of the fandom assumes that wikipedia contains the entirity of the game. The game is absurdly long, and there are so many details as a result - there are some important characters who have only a few minutes of screentime like Lucrecia, Zack, Ifalna, etc. I haven't read any online summaries of the games, but based on fics I've read by people who haven't played it, I'm fairly sure they're lacking. There's just too many little things that weren't important enough to end up in a summary, but that are important as details in a fic, and that can be obvious when someone gets them wrong.

I understand. xD Every time I see secrets like this, I want to write up some long rant on the matter, but my poor flist has suffered enough talk of FFVII.

O-okay, this pretty much comes out of nowhere, but I really liked your "rants" about secret 2 and playing FFVII and I agree with them completely, so I went and had a look at your journal. You seem pretty interesting and, uh - mind if if friend you? ^^;

(Seriously, the game is love and it has way too many details that don't end up on wikipedia and way too many "fanon" things that some of the I-haven't-played-the-game-but-I-can-fool-everyone people think are canon for them to really fool anyone (who's played the game and payed attention).)

xD If you want, sure! I tend to ramble about random things, though. ♥
