What is Thramsay?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-10 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Theon Greyjoy/Ramsay Bolton from A Song of Ice and Fire.

Spoilers (And warning for the absolute zenith of horror in what are already often harrowing books)

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
From Game of Thrones

Ramsay is a murdering sadistic rapist. He likes to chase women through the woods naked, rape them, flay them alive and then feed them to his dogs.

He spent the last book torturing Theon - he flayed parts of him, left him in agony for days, then dismembered him; he also made him live in filth, sexually abused him, and castrated him.

They're so sexy and kawaii omg!!

Yeah yeah, YKINMK whateverthefuck. God, I despise fandom sometimes.

...huh. That's way worse than I was expecting. I try to be as ship and let ship as possible but I certainly hope fandom is treating this as horrible as it is and not making it kawaii as fuck ~twu luv~ because. Damn.

Yeah, because all asoiaf fandom with all of its ~*~*~* problematic ships needs is....drumroll...more kinkshaming!

You're reaching with this, anon. How the fuck did I kinkshame? Because I think people shouldn't be treating a ship like this as a lovey-dovey romansu (I know nothing of this fandom so idk if it does or doesn't)? Or is it because I said that's worse than I was expecting? Because tbh the torture that was described was worse than what I was expecting.

Oh, for God's sake. People are allowed to think things you like are skeevy and unbelieveable as hell.

Grow up.

Re: Spoilers (And warning for the absolute zenith of horror in what are already often harrowing book

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY. Holy fuck this "kinkshaming" bullshit. People are allowed to have negative opinions on pairings just like people are "allowed" to ship pairing or whatever. JFC.

Honestly, if you can't handle the heat ("kink-shaming" of a disgusting sadistic rapist/his victim), get out of the kitchen, other anon.

You are aware of the fact that NOBODY in fandom woobifies Ramsay or ships Ramsay/Theon as true love or anything like that, right? Literally every single Thramsay fic out there is about how fucked up this ship is.

Re: Spoilers (And warning for the absolute zenith of horror in what are already often harrowing book

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Crossposted from Tumblr:

"Firstly - Thramsay is not a romantic ship; it’s just a relationship. When I say that I like Thramsay - I’m not saying that I think Theon and Ramsay are deeply in love with each other and that they are going to be skipping off into the sunset together… no, nothing at all like that. What I am saying is that I like the dynamic between Theon and Ramsay. It is a completely one-sided relationship built on obsession, dependence, power play and torture - to me that is the opposite of romance. Let’s compare Thramsay to another, more popular, ship at the moment – Hannigram. Sure… Hannibal isn’t actually physically torturing Will, but he is mentally trying to break him. He’s feeding him human meat, I mean – it’s definitely not romantic! I do see the two ships as similar, yet one seems to be commonly accepted and the other isn’t.

Secondly – What people choose to ship in a fictional setting does not, in any way, have a bearing on their real life moral compass. It’s fictional. Let’s be real… there are hardly any ships in A Song of Ice and Fire that anyone would realistically say is a functional and healthy relationship; so the amount of shit that gets thrown to Thramsay fans always makes me laugh. Having an interest in dark things and things that are taboo is actually quite normal for a lot of people… and in a fandom that has no problem with incest, I’m betting a lot of us have these interests. However a fantasy is just a fantasy, and it’s just for fun. I’m sure that most people who ship Jaime and Cersei aren’t hopping into bed with their brothers and sisters, so why do people assume that Thramsay shippers are advocating torture? "

As someone who ships both Thramsay and Hannibal/Will, there are WORLDS between the two ships. They're both fucked up, but in completely different ways and I don't think comparing them leads anywhere. It's a different kind of fucked up, and I don't think the comparison serves in any way to make someone understand either ship better.

Re: Spoilers (And warning for the absolute zenith of horror in what are already often harrowing book

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thing is, I think many Hannigram shippers do ship it romantically in some capacity.

even if it's a fucked up ship, IT'S STILL A SHIP. that, imo, is creepy. and a cutesy smooshed couple name for the ship, even? EW. ew ew ew ew

Oh noes, people find fucked up ships interesting, how terrible. And you know that the couple name is pure trolling. Like, 90% of what the Bolton fans do.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
omg, stahp. Since when does "ship" mean a pairing that represents the ideal of true love? Shipping means you like the dynamics between two characters plus sex. I say I ship Ramsay/Theon because I like reading non-con, powerplay, and violent dominance. don't get your panties in a twist over it, it's fictional fantasy and no one is saying they are ~in love~

I don't seek out the ship, but I'm in asoiaf fandom and every single time Thramsay has crossed my path it's been "ironic" chibified cutesy bollocks. cf The pic used for the secret, for example

lol nobody seriously portrays the ship as ~tru wuv omg so kawaii~ unless you're gullible enough to believe all the ridiculously kawaii fanart isn't being purely ironic. Stay mad kink shamer.

Re: Spoilers (And warning for the absolute zenith of horror in what are already often harrowing book

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
I am not stupid enough to not know they're trolling. I'm also not asinine enough to think trolling itself is anything other than obnoxious behaviour. Prosthetic irony does not magically endow immaturity with wit or wisdom. I find Thramsay so irritating precisely because of its opinion of itself as trolly and ironic. It's a Three and a Half Men of a fandom.
