Can somebody please explain to me what this means, because the sea changes every fucking day, and all I can think is that it's referring to the tides going in and out all the time, but then you're just saying that your partner leaves you all the time but always comes back, and that just doesn't really seem like a ringing endorsement for said relationship, y'know?

I don't understand this simile.

I think it's b/c it's always there. It never truly goes away--it's not the sea can pack up it's bags and move to a new location when it gets bored. The tides may go in an out, but in the end it always there and/or coming back to you (think of someone who travels a lot for their job).

...But you could say that about a lot of things. Dirt, for example! I mean, hell, dirt will be around long after the water's gone. Or is that not purply and obtuse enough for these people? Why not say "As faithful as dirt!" "As permanent as a glitter spill!" "As secure as epoxy!" "As long-lasting as an LED bulb!"

I could go on, but I work at a hardware store, so I think these will just get more and more obscure...

The sea's pretty and poetic and blue and dirt isn't. It's just there. It's also walked on and, well, common, while a lot of people never see the sea in person unless they travel to go see it. That's why the expression "as common as dirt", which is also brown, and well, not all that pretty in itself.

Twist and Shout isn't a Little Richard song. I think most people would consider it an Isley Brothers song (although they weren't the first to record it) and the Beatles version is also very famous.

I've tried to read it and never gotten through the whole thing because I kept getting bored. It feels like it's vague approximations of SPN characters transplanted into a Deep and Meaningful book with Themes Of The Times. --Which is fine as far as it goes. It didn't seem badly written to me.

Maybe they're comparing it because of the attempts to be Deep and Meaningful and Educational?

Mmm. I'm not big on being wacked on the head with Deep and Meaningful and Educational themes, but I might still give it a browse through and see if I can stand it or not.

I tried reading it but I couldn't get through it. Mostly because the characters in the story resembled very little the characters in the show. It just feels like a generic tragic love story that has protagonists who happen to be named Dean and Cas. Cas is also woobified to a ridiculous extend, IMO.

Oh my god I legitimately don't know why that story is so popular. I ended up reading it and the characters were so unrecognisable. It was basically original fiction. I enjoy AUs but come the fuck on.

Some fool recommended it to Misha at a con recently too.
