I hate this shit too, but I don't find it difficult to avoid. It crosses my dash occasionally, but that's easy to ignore, and I almost never see it in fandom tags - I'm curious what tags you're looking at that are cluttered up with it. I get that it's disappointing when it infects a smaller fandom - when I started looking for fic in one of my smallest fandoms, almost all of it was crossovers with something I didn't care about because of actors in both being shipped together in The Hobbit. But no one was forcing me to read it, and I Tumblr Saviored the pairing smush names and now it's like that part of the fandom doesn't exist. If people want to have fun with huge crossovers that don't make sense, I'm happy to let them have their fun, as long as they're not shoving it in my face.
