I am in the Teen Wolf fandom, but I have yet to read a A/B/O fic all the way through. I just don't get the appeal. Maybe I haven't found the right fic yet?

OP

Mostly I'm interested in it for the world-building and societal implications, I think. Admittedly I don't know how the genre manifests in the TW fandom, since I'm not in it.

You most likely won't find one. I've browsed a couple, and each and every one has been completely OOC from the first paragraph. So I don't exactly get the appeal either.

:( At least we don't get the appeal together anon!

Man, I'm not defending a/b/o because I can't stand any of it at all, but um, there's something very very wrong with this sentence...

Ayrt. By a couple I mean "not all of them but more than enough". So would several be a better word?

What bothers me about A/B/O in Teen Wolf is that the canon already has these different roles with the werewolf world. Omegas especially are something completely different and yet anyone who decides to write A/B/O in this 'verse conveniently forgets that.

I don't know much about the dynamics and roles in A/B/O fics, but characterization always seems off in a lot of TW fics. I know SPN has some A/B/O fics, but I don't know if they are good either.

...aaaaand that's why it's an au?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-12 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I have this Teen Wolf A/B/O fic series in the works in which this exact thing is mentioned. Humans call the sexes Alpha, Beta and Omega, but werewolves call themselves Alpha/Beta/Omega in regards to pack structure (Omegas being without pack) while their sexes are Delta, Epsilon and Sigma.

Since humans are more numerous though, their terminology is the "official" one, so when it comes to werewolf pack structure, humans call them "Pack Alpha", "Pack Beta" and "Pack Omega" (unofficially shortened as "P Alpha" etc.)

The werewolves themselves, however, use their own terminology.

So for werewolves Derek would be a Delta Beta, Scott an Epsilon Beta, and Stiles would be a Sigma.

For humans, Derek would be an Alpha P Beta, Scott a Beta P Beta and Stiles an Omega.

Maybe try a different fandom? Oddly, the best A/B/O verse fics I have found were in Sherlock or Avengers fandom.

Then again, ABO is not for everyone and you may just not like it. :P

Seconding "try a different fandom." X-Men First Class had some really good ones too. :)

I know SPN has some A/B/O fics, but I've seen them more on the Wincest side of fandom and I'm on the Dean/Cas side.

Do you perchance have any recs?

Maybe, haha.

Did you want canon with just ABO aspects or is completely AU okay?

I will take either. I don't have problems with AUs.

I can't remember these exactly, but I am 85% sure they are all ABO verse (or have hints of it).

Thank you so much for these! I'll give them a try :)

Thank goodness a/b/o is basically non-existent in my fandom, that's all I have to say. The only thing I like about it is the soulbonding, and there are fics for it without the weird knotting stuff.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, nobody is making you click on fics you don't like. Even if they're in "your" fandom.
