Meh. I like A/B/O verse. Then again Supernatural and Sherlock fandom made me lose like 90% of my shame. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

I like A/B/O verse! But I also admit it's really freaking weird so. SHRUG.

yeah most of us who like A/B/O know and agree that it's really messed up. But that's what fanfic is for!

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah well now when people are complaining it's not just random, they're including you in the group so it probably feels like their attacking you. makes sense.

i'm curious, were you able to meet your own challenge and write a/b/o without all those awful tropes? (the OOC, rapey overtones, etc)

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I like to think so, and the story was certainly well-received, but I recognize that OOC is one of those things that one can seldom judge accurately for oneself. I'd link the fic and let you judge for yourself, but that would pretty effectively "out" me. I did deliberately subvert the rapey elements of the genre, though. The second part (how did this turn into a trilogy on me?) is going to challenge another trope in the genre that bothers me.

i never understood why it was so difficult for people to just scroll past something they don't enjoy

because it OFFENDS them when things they don't like exist okay?!

It's easy to scroll past, that doesn't lessen the annoyance. I also see nothing offensive with venting frustrations at something, same as you're doing by commenting here.

When it got to the point where there were several ABO prompts/fic of every single page on a fandom's kink meme, I was spending more time scrolling by it then I was reading stuff I actually liked. I ended up leaving two different fandoms because it was just more aggravating than it was worth.

Also, the self-lubing asses just squicks me out super hard. I can't stop thinking about diarrhea.

I am in the Teen Wolf fandom, but I have yet to read a A/B/O fic all the way through. I just don't get the appeal. Maybe I haven't found the right fic yet?

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly I'm interested in it for the world-building and societal implications, I think. Admittedly I don't know how the genre manifests in the TW fandom, since I'm not in it.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You most likely won't find one. I've browsed a couple, and each and every one has been completely OOC from the first paragraph. So I don't exactly get the appeal either.

What bothers me about A/B/O in Teen Wolf is that the canon already has these different roles with the werewolf world. Omegas especially are something completely different and yet anyone who decides to write A/B/O in this 'verse conveniently forgets that.

Maybe try a different fandom? Oddly, the best A/B/O verse fics I have found were in Sherlock or Avengers fandom.

Then again, ABO is not for everyone and you may just not like it. :P

The dark font over the dark edges of the graphic hurt my eyes.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-11 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
ABO hits loads of my kinks and I still find most of it too badly written to enjoy. Still, I'm glad it exists. (does anyone know where it started? I'm guessing...SPN?)

(Having said all that, you know the way we get periodic bursts of RL media interest in fandom? One day some daring journo is going to try to explain ABO to the world, and on the day I will literally die of cringe.)

A/B/O is part and parcel with furries and will meet the same end as furries on the day of reckoning

But Juggafuries must burn first.

I'm not a fan of Alpha+Omega stuff (not because there aren't some quality fics out there; I've got other reasons) but keep doing your thing, OP. You're writing for yourself, not others.

It'd actually be fun to read a/b/o fic if it were written without, as you say, the 'rapey' stuff and the seme/uki stuff. That's my biggest issue with it - all the dub-con and all the 'omegas are just animals/whores/property' abusive crap.

fleshisyummy: (Default)

[personal profile] fleshisyummy 2013-05-11 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have a problem with A/B/O. People like what they like. I'm just completely uninterested. I'd rather read IC porn in the canon-verse.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-12 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I started doing the same thing! There are enough interesting aspects to an a/b/o society that I think it could be fun to play around with. Of course, I started writing original fic, which means there'll be no audience for it! But it's sort of fun to try and keep the a/b/o stuff reasonably recognizable, while ditching the rapey parts. I hope your fics do well!

(Anonymous) 2013-05-12 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I've been out of fandom, fanfic and LJ for a while.

Can someone explain this A/B/O thing to a clueless n00b? Or even drop a link on me to read?
