(not OP, but someone who could easily have written a very similar secret...)

For me, when I do this, it's not that I don't feel close to the person. I mostly just get really overwhelmed with anxiety, through a combination of feeling guilty that I haven't been interacting with them enough and worrying that maybe they don't actually want me to bother them anyway. I've lost some of my best friends this way...

Just saying, if this is what is happening to you, it's not necessarily that they don't feel as close to you as you do to them. There could be other things at play.
