I remember this anime! I never liked the high school antics, either. That's pretty much why I bailed on it. But it was fun.

Wasn't The Second Raid more about the plotty antics? You could just stick to that one if the high school parts bother you, since I remember them coming to a very distinct end half-way through. There is still some silliness going on, but definitely not to the first one's level, let alone Fumofu.

I feel the same way; this is why I never watched Fumoffu. I think the fluffy stuff tends to be what writers make more of since it's easier to write not-badly (even though the plotty stuff can be much better when it's good.

I honestly loved both. I liked how the manga balanced it and I felt like the anime allowed you to "pick your poison". If you wanted fluff, you watched Fumoffu. If you wanted action, you watched the first or second series. Sure, the first series had some antics in it, but they weren't nearly as in your face as Fumoffu.

Also, for some reason, Chidori and Sosuke are like my OTP forever and ever. I can't figure it out. It doesn't even remotely resemble my actual marriage, I don't know why I'm so invested in it. O_o
