I don't see it as cheapening since religious themes are very interesting and often universal. Take Jesus' story. His themes are of kindness, loyalty, faith and betrayal. Darn well universal, like I said. You can create a story mirroring his life and have just about everyone relate to that because his underlining themes are so easy to relate to. What type of writer would avoid a story like that?

I misread your comment as "His themes are of kindness, loyalty, fish and betrayal." and was very confused for a moment. Oops.

Well, it still does kind of make sense if you think about it. Jesus did say, "Come with me and I will make fishers of men." And then there's the sermon on the mount with the loaves of bread and fish. And then Jesus taking everyone on a fishing ship to show how he can walk on water.

Yeah, fish could indeed be a theme.

No. I did a high school report once on The Bible's influence on classical literature and Shakespeare.

That report was one of the few things that I still remember from high school because afterward I started seeing The Bible's influence everywhere. So many people have cribbed from it, that it's practically a go to guide for writing prompts.

Well, he spent a lot of his life living near the Sea of Galilee. Fish and fishing were important.
