Depends on how it's being written. If it's going from 'tried to kill you' to 'love and rainbows' inside a few chapters, yeah, not getting that. But if it's keeping the bulk of the canon dynamic intact, just adding in layers of sexual tension/possessive instincts/obsessive devotion ... well, isn't hate another form of passion? I mean, if you've obsessively structured your life around interaction with one other person, regardless of the nature of that interaction, you've certainly got something going on with them on an emotional level.

Some people enjoy exploring other types of emotional interaction between characters. After that, it depends on the quality of the writing and the approach they're taking to the pair that decides whether or not I'll roll with it.

This. There's a huge difference between disliking someone and passionately hating them to the point where you're spending more time thinking about them than a lot of people do about people they actually like. Is there really any wonder that some people are going to start to wonder if there might not actually be something else going on there?
