It doesn't automatically imply romance, but on the flipside, it doesn't disprove it either. If A passionately hates B, he might just really hate B's guts and that's it. But in certain fictional hateful relationships, it's also possible for a fan to go "well, maybe he just hates B's guts, but wouldn't it be cool to postulate that A and B also had something romantic between them, in addition to hating each other's guts? That would be so cool to write about."

It's not that "A and B hate each other, therefore, A and B must actually want to fuck" It's "A and B hate each other, therefore, their relationship would be really fascinating if they also wanted to fuck."

(Mind you, I'm not really a fan of hateshipping, but that's the general impression I get).

This. I can't speak for the OP, but my issue with antagonistic ships like some of these is when shippers insist it was there all along if you just look a little harder.

Otherwise, when you simply think two characters could work together & want to explore that, sail that ship all day long, baby.

I can sympathize with the OP in that I don't understand hate!shipping, but I really like your explanation/theory and will probably work with that reasoning. Thanks. :)
