  • The cotton-top tamarin's Latin name is Saguinus oedipus
  • They are about as large as a squirrel
  • The are listed as "critically endangered"
  • They have that listing due to years of being exported for biomedical research, followed by rapid deforestation of their habitat
  • The only place in the world where they currently live in the wild is a small forest in Columbia

Do you know if there's any particular reason behind the Latin name of the species? The "oedipus" part, that is.
