Honestly tumblr helped me get back into fandom after years and years of not participating due to LJ-based fandom culture being too intimidating to me. Tumblr is nice because its very disconnected. You can throw a picture out into the void for people to enjoy without ever having to interact with anyone at all. (I'm a fan-artist too fwiw.)

Seriously, take a deep breath. Figure out what the big tags for your fandom/pairing are. Start with easy posts, like a single picture at a time. Tumblr automatically resizes the pics you upload to fit on a normal dash (clicking the picture brings up the fullsize version) so you don't have to worry too much about formatting your posts. Tag it appropriately with the fandom, characters, "Stella's Art" or whatever (so you can find it later on your art tag), etc. You probably also want to put a clear watermark on your pic because people can be dicks and repost without crediting you.

You'll probably get lots of likes and a few reblogs. People who reblog might include their comments in the body of the text post or in their own tags or both. It isn't considered rude to ignore reblog comments and not re-follow people who follow you.

It'll take you a little while to figure out all the ins and outs of tumblr, but ime its way more intuitive than LJ is for posting art, music, etc. because you don't have to manually code everything.

Wow, that is gorgeous. It looks fine to me but I'm a tumblr noob who posts stuff I do in paint and still don't know what a dedicated tag is. Also. Now I'm following you and I'm imagining you're reacting like this:

Oops. Those were meant to be two separate thoughts. As in: WOW LOOK AT THE ART and then "Yes, yes. Everything seems to be progressing nicely over here in the tags. *strokes chin*" I am very easily distracted lately. :)

you could always submit your art to big fandom blogs for more visibility and so it doesn't get lost in the general tags.

pretty sure fyhannibal accepts art submissions.

AAA, that looks really nice! I do hope you have fun on Tumblr; it is confusing at first but once you follow decent people or get through the junk of fandom tags, it's pretty nice. I draw fanart as well but from my experience, there aren't really any ~*rules~* of Tumblr besides those of courtesy (tagging porn as nsfw or not spamming tags with ten live-blogging posts with one sentence each, etc.) I'm not sure if you left it closed on purpose or not, but allowing asks would help as well :>
