You mean Amnesia: The Dark Descent? I'm pretty sure most of those people really haven't played the game.

Wait . . . Are you saying people are shipping Daniel with Alexander? Granted, Alexander shows a touch of guilt for sacrificing Daniel's life, but he's still a monster both figuratively and literally. The closest thing he has to a redeeming quality is his love for a lady monster he's trying to return to (which motivates everything he does in the game, and is another strike against pairing him with Daniel.)

Agreed. His SO was a huge motivator for his actions, and that's usually either flat-out disregarded or hand-waived in most fanworks I've come across.

Granted, I'm also the kind of person that suspends my disbelief for a pairing I don't ship when I come across something well-written and well thought out.

Interesting that you refer to Alexander's SO as a lady! I never saw any specific gender pronouns when looking through Alexander's memory jars/weird floaty diary entries/whatever they are, so I always thought the programmers wanted to leave that up for interpretation or that they were implying that their 'species' wasn't gender specfic except when they took on a human form. Then again, my initial interpretation was that when he referred to his 'love' that he was referring to a woman.

Let's not forget Daniel, who was a monster too. They were both out for themselves and no one else.

By which I mean, Alex had a lady (?) friend, but his motivations for slaughtering people in his torture dungeon were still purely selfish.

I have never delved into this fandom, but I can totally see there having been some kind of relationship PRE-game. Daniel clearly trusts Alexander and looks to him for guidance and protection, and Alexander is a perverted sexual sadist so it's easy to imagine him exploiting that trust. During the game or post somehow? Never outside some very gymnastical efforts.

Uhh. What? Alexander tortured people because the vitae produced by their suffering was keeping him alive. He's also a 500-year-old lovecraftian hellbeast from another dimension. He's clearly a douche who wasn't really hating the whole torturing people to death thing, but nowhere in the game is it implied that his sadism is sexual. Where did you get this?

It's been a while since I played the game, but I seem to recall a lot of the tortures being sexual in nature? Like the triangle thing and stuff like that. Like he could have tortured and killed people without that sexual element, but it just made it a different kind of creepy to me?

The Judas Cradle is genital-related, I guess, but Alexander just used whatever implements would make his prisoners suffer the most for a long enough period of time for his purposes. It's not stated anywhere that he was a sexual sadist and it would make no sense for him to be one, what with his being an alien from a super-asvanced society and all. He's the scientists in PETA propaganda and humans are the spider monkeys getting their skullcaps sawn off; that it occasionally involves some guy's balls is incidental.

Sorry I have a lot of feelings about Amnesia.
