Re: Big fat Indie Rec's (Edit: /co/ helps!) BIG ASS PICTURE

Aw man, I'm reading Transmetropolitan right now. Ten years later, and it's still so relevant and it is so. Good.

I really thought Spider would just be a typical angry 90's antihero, but he's so complex and genuine and...oddly compassionate. I just love this book.

It's really scary how relevant Transmetro is even today.

Most good political-edged work stays relevant for decades, even centuries, because sadly at the end of the day, that whole Man's Inhumanity To Man theme with a dash of Power Corrupts (and the Corrupt get Power) is probably universally a part of the human condition.

That's because he's secretly Hunter S Thompson. Or, I guess, FUTURE Hunter S Thompson but still. That was very much a characteristic of HST, once you looked past the wacky drug stuff. I don't really think that Spider is 'just' Hunter S Thompson - he's his own character and he is complex and great - but I think that element is one that comes pretty directly from the Hunter S Thompson influence.
