Not sure about RTD but wasn't Moffat a sitcom/soap opera writer before DW?

And both of them have needed a hefty smackdown with a boxed collector's edition of 1984 for decades imo.

"Decades"? The show hasn't been written by them for "decades". What did they do "decades" ago that needed a smackdown?
