Re: I Hate _______, but Love ________.
And yeah, agreed. I would desperately like to see more queer media of... any sort, but most yaoi and yuri manga... ESPECIALLY gross forced seme-uke dynamics... ugh.

Re: I Hate _______, but Love ________.
(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 02:45 am (UTC)(link)boys love is actually the term japanese fans adopted to avoid the pedophiliac implications of "shounen-ai", but it's a catchall term for works depicting male/male relationships of all ages
however, in a lot of western fandom people still often use "shounen-ai" and "yaoi" to differentiate between non-graphic (often completely non-sexual, or even just subtextual) and graphic sexual content
i'm not sure if Girl's Love has similar story of use, but it pops up in most of the circles i'm in and i've absorbed it
a lot of yaoi and yuri still focuses on high school students, but there's a lot more variety now, and i've been pleasantly surprised by the number of manga focusing on college aged and older characters
wow um sorry for the essay there
Re: I Hate _______, but Love ________.
(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 03:11 am (UTC)(link)the other big turn-off of for me was how i can't even count the number of stories where there is literally no safe haven for the main character, because everywhere they go there is someone waiting to molest them or even slink their way into their personal space for the same
it's supposed to be fun and romantic and sexy, but now it just makes me really anxious and upset
