I know how to tumblr but I can never muster up the stones to use it for reasons very similar to yours. Also the confusing way it's set up contributes to wank potential - post or respond to someone, anyone who scrolls by in the tag may decide to reblog and you have no control over where the conversation is going to go. Rather different from posts being contained in one blog/community. I'd rather be obscure and unnoticed on AO3 and kinkmemes than ever deal with that.
