Re: Faith & nonfaith

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)First off, many of the people criticizing atheists on f!s and other nerdy internet places are themselves atheists or agnostics. I know I've criticized atheists and I'm an atheist. So it's more complicated than "all atheists are bad and intolerant."
Second, I think the problem is that (except for the dumbass SJW critique of atheism) people are mostly criticizing a certain community of atheists - a certain kind of intolerant, brash atheist, the kind who tends, for instance, to claim that anyone who believes in religion is necessarily unintelligent or totally irrational. The problem is they usually just say "atheists" because there's no easy name to distinguish between different kinds of atheists (there's 'New Atheism' but that sucks). So it's unfortunate but it tends to sound like they're criticizing atheism generally when they're really criticizing some things that atheists do. Whereas I think there are some atheists - and obviously it's not all of them - but there are some atheists who, when they're criticizing religion, really do seem to apply that critique to all people who are religious whatsoever (or at least all Christians or what-have-you).
So, I mean, yes, sometimes people criticize atheism on here, but I really don't think it's the same thing at all. And really, what the fuck do you expect to happen when you say shit like some atheists say? I mean, come the fuck on, people.
