As a religious person, I actually think it's cool when non-believers write about my religion, IF they do it in a respectful way. There's nothing wrong with exploring different belief systems through writing, or with using other religions' concepts of the afterlife or spiritual realm as inspiration for fiction.

That being said... I get why it would annoy you if they have an attitude that they're better than religious people while still using those people's beliefs as a backdrop for their stories. I haven't encountered that exact thing before, but I'm sure it would anger me if I did. So yeah.
