I love both of them. Joan doesn't take shit from anyone and JLM's Sherlock portrayal has heart. Just wondering, why didn't you like JLM's portrayal?

I adore both of them, but a friend said he didn't like JLM's Sherlock because he was too vulgar, basically. Too much with the sex and tattoos and so forth, not cerebral enough? IDK, I like it, I think it makes him human. But maybe that's why OP doesn't like him.

I could see that. Esp. in the early days, when they were really pushing the "Sherlock sleeps with hookers and has threesomes and sex sex sex!!"" thing, which... sheesh.

That's one of the reasons I don't like him. Secondly, the actor is really unsympathetic. Also his voice just grates on my nerves. But most of all I don't feel he's Sherlocky enough. The clever got pushed behind the shocking. And I also really hate their relationship and how he's treating her.

Really? Can you expand on that? Because you are almost the only person I've heard say that, and "their relationship and how he treats her" are the things most commonly cited for why people like the show. He treats her like an adult, like a capable human being. He doesn't think she's as smart as he is, he doesn't think *anyone* is as smart as he is, but he clearly has a great deal of respect for her. I think he treats her vastly better than Cumberbatch!Sherlock treats his Watson, for instance.
